What’s better than a hot bowl of soup when it’s chilly weather outside? As we’re at the last month of the year, the weather in Singapore is starting to be just a little bit colder.
When the weather is colder, I tend to gravitate toward foods that are soupy and hot. It just happened to be a good find while I was at Jem looking for a place to have my lunch with my Mum!
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh was an inviting place with a rustic and laid-back vibe. It almost felt as if we were being transported back into the 80’s with their decos, wooden tables and benches.
This is how the shop looks like! It’s actually quite cool and vintage looking haha.
So Bak Kut Teh is a traditional pork ribbed dish in peppery broth, and is popular in Singapore.
You will definitely taste a lot of pepper and maybe a hint of herbal taste in the soup and that is what makes it stand out from the normal soups we have here. Reason being, it’s savory and just a tiny bit spicy, and the soup is so addictive you’ll find yourself asking for seconds! Usually the shops in Singapore will offer free refill of the soup. Yes, it’s that good.
So moving on to the menu, it’s very simple and straight to the point, with the price stated there also.
My mum loves to eat the pork ribs and loin ribs, so she’d ask them to mix both and I’d usually get the sliced fish soup! The set comes with rice but you’re able to choose if you want noodles, just let them know!
We ordered a side dish as well, the salted vegetables. The salted vegetables I feel are so important in a Bak Kut Teh meal because it just balances everything out as you might feel it’s a little heavy by just eating the pork ribs.
Another side dish I would recommend would be the steamed peanuts! Those actually goes very well with the rice and salted vegetables!
I cannot stress just how important it is to visit Song Fa Bak Kut Teh! The place is so chill and laid-back and you really get to enjoy some good food over here! The staff are all friendly and always greeting you with a smile, and the waiting time is quick as well. Please don’t miss this place when you come to Singapore!
